LAURA & BRANDON

HOW DID YOU MET
We were both traveling to Japan for an athletics competition. Although we hadn’t met, our manager booked us on the same booking. We spent the flight talking to each other and hung out more in Japan. We kept in touch afterwards and the rest is history!
YOUR ENGAGEMENT STORY
In December 2018 we were invited to Monaco for the IAAF Awards. Once we arrived, we went for a walk to see what was around our hotel and Brandon took his camera. We found a Japanese garden and had a look inside. We found a place with a nice background to take a photo of us both, so Brandon set up the tripod and camera whilst Laura waited in the frame. As Brandon walked from the camera towards Laura, he “tripped” and fell to one knee where he proposed. He managed to get the whole thing on camera which was his plan all along.
WHAT MARRIAGE MEANS TO YOU
Marriage means everything to us. To marry someone who is your best friend and better half is what life is all about.
WEDDING LOCATION/ VENUE
Our wedding location was at the The Woodhouse Wollombi. Laura found the venue on google and we both loved it. It aligned with our relaxed style, and we liked that the ceremony and reception were on the same property. After Gab and Chris showed us around, we knew we were going to book it as soon as we got home.
PREPARATION – COUNTDOWN BEGINS
Our preparation was quite relaxed. The day before the wedding Brandon spent the day playing golf with his groomsmen party. Laura spent the morning getting ready with her bridesmaids and her parents.
The dress was a Freja Gown from the Lovers Society.
Laura wanted a dress that was fitted and had a bohemian luxe feel to it.
Tony Bianco white strapped heels.
The Bridesmaids dress was from Coco and Lola. It was a navy and silk material, with a sash around the waist.
The Bridesmaid shoes were also Tony Bianco with a strap style and were cream in colour
All of our rings are from Tiffany & Co. Laura’s engagement ring is a solitaire princess cut, with the matching wedding band. Brandon has a simple platinum double milgrain ring.
HAIR & MAKEUP
Styled with soft curls and worn out. Her make-up was a simple bronzed, glowed look.
THE FLOWERS & BOUQUETS
Roses, phalaenopsis orchards and dried foliage were chosen for the flower arrangements. We chose to include minimal greenery to match with the tones of the venue and styling. We gave a few photos to Bronte from The Flower Posse of styles we liked and left it in her capable hands.
GROOM + GROOMSMEN ATTIRE
Brandon and his Groomsmen all wore the same M.J. Bale linen-cotton blend Robertson Sand suit. The groomsmen wore a navy blue tie with matching pocket square where Brandon wore a lighter red/brown small checkered tie with matching pocket square.
We arrived in two ’57 Chevy Belair’s which were owned by the vendors Rockabilly Rose
We always wanted a short ceremony but it was quite hard to find a celebrant was willing to keep the ceremony short and sweet. Laura met Jen Downie at a wedding exposition in the Hunter Valley and after speaking to her for a few minutes she knew that she was exactly what we were after.

Recessional – Wild love – James Bay
First Dance – Tennessee Whisky – Chris Stapleton
WEDDING PLANNER/ WEDDING STYLIST
We were finding it hard to find a stylist in Sydney who had a Moroccan luxe / bohemian style as they all seemed to be in Byron Bay. We came across Rychelle from Lovestoned styling on Instagram and saw she was going to be at the Sutherland Shire Wedding Expo in a few weeks. We arrived at Cronulla and found Rychelle’s stall straight away, introduced ourselves and asked if she was free on our wedding day and to our luck, she was. She went above and beyond for us and made the process seamless. We gave her a few photos of styles we liked and left it in her capable hands to style the venue how she liked. On the day we were blown away with the space! She created a wedding that was beyond what we could have imagined.
• Ceremony/Reception Venue - THEME & STYLE
We chose some key pieces from Rychelle’s inventory and left it up to her to decide the detail. She created this amazing bohemian luxe styled ceremony with white, pale pink and neutral colours. The feature piece was definitely the stunning arbor which created the perfect backdrop for our ceremony!
RECEPTION DÉCOR & DETAILS
As we had a cocktail wedding we wanted the space to feel full, but allowing guests to be able to move freely around the space. We left the styling up to Rychelle and were taken back on the day at what she created. The reception was aligned with the bohemian luxe theme and Rychelle’s creation exceeded our expectations.
Our invitations were sent out to our guests online using Paperless Post. We customized one of the many templates they had online to match our style and sent them out to everyone. It is so much better for the environment and we received RSVP’s within minutes of sending them out. Tracking RSVP’s and informing guests of information was effortless, not to mention a lot cheaper.
DID YOU STICK WITH THE TRADITION OF FAVORS /BONBONNIERE?
Our take home gifts were made by the lovely mother of the bride, Julie May. She made over 100 cookies that had our name and hashtag on them, along with honey jars with honey from her hives. The night before the wedding there were many hands on deck with the family helping tie the bows on each of the pots.
Julie also made our wedding cake. It was 2 tiered, buttercream layered cake. One tier was white chocolate and the other with milk chocolate.
Anthony was an MC, acoustic guitarist and DJ all rolled into one! He played some handpicked songs on his acoustic guitar at our ceremony and at the cocktail hour. We gave him an idea of what we liked for the reception and he created a playlist around those songs.
FOOD & BEVERAGES
We had a cocktail style menu along with a grazing table post ceremony. We weren’t too keen on the sit down option because of the formality, and would rather everyone to have the freedom to mingle and sit with whoever they chose to. We also wanted to make sure there was plenty of food for everything. We, along with our guests, loved the variety of food that was available. No one went hungry!
We chose to do a Wishing Well rather than a Gift Registry.
Choosing the right photographer was extremely important to us as Brandon is an avid photographer. Lucy was recommended to us by our amazing stylist Rychelle, as she knew exactly the style of photographer we wanted. We could not be happier with the photos. Lucy was amazing in the lead up to the wedding, and on the day of. She captured the most organic, candid moments that we will forever look back on.
YOUR MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT
Our favourite moment from the wedding was when we were taking photos together. It was just us two of us (and Lucy). It was the first time we had time to ourselves to enjoy the moment together and let everything sink in.
OTHER MEMORABLE MOMENTS
HONEYMOON TIME BABY!!!
We are saving our honeymoon for the end of 2020 because Brandon is competing at the Tokyo Olympic in June 2020. We are planning to rent a van and roundtrip around the south island of New Zealand
IF YOU COULD GIVE OTHER BRIDES ONE PIECE OF ADVICE…
Try not to sweat the small stuff and enjoy the best day of your life!
