Saturday 9th March 2019
HOW DID YOU MEET
We met at age 13 at our local youth group. After about 6 years of being best friends, we finally decided that it was time to acknowledge the truth – that this was way more than just a friendship!
YOUR ENGAGEMENT STORY
We got engaged on the 28th of January 2019 at the same spot where Deklan asked me to be his girlfriend 5 years prior. In fact, he wrote a song titled “Yes You” to ask me to be his girlfriend – and this is the song I walked down the aisle to!
THE FLOWERS & BOUQUETS
I ADORED the bouquets that my florist came up with! She used a mix of dried and fresh flowers with a peach ribbon on the bottom. She also created floral installations for the end of the aisle using vases from Lovestoned Bridal, and she set up a floral installation in the barn behind the bridal party. She did perfectly!
WEDDING LOCATION/ VENUE
We chose Waldara Farm in Oberon after looking at many, many venues. We wanted to get married somewhere that truly represented us as a couple. Together, we love weekend getaways to the middle of nowhere, we love cabins, and we love the mountains – so, we dragged all of our friends and family 3 hours away to join us at the gorgeous farm in Oberon!
GROOM + GROOMSMEN ATTIRE
My husband wore the paisley bowtie that his father wore on his wedding day.
PREPARATION – COUNTDOWN BEGINS
I stayed with the bridesmaids in the girls house on the property, whilst the groom and groomsmen stayed in the cabin on the property. At 6am on the morning of the wedding, I met my future groom down at the water to pray together. One of his groomsmen got up early to make a specialty filter coffee for us. It was one of my absolute favourite moments of the day.
When I got back, my mum had made breakfast for myself and the bridesmaids, and my beautiful bridesmaids gave me a bridal robe – the incredible ‘wifey’ robe from One Day Bridal! I also gave my bridesmaids and my mum a gift – the boho robe from Homebodii
I tried on several dresses at several bridal shops and had essentially lost hope; then I went to LoveStoned Bridal in Camden. Amy made me feel as though I was the most special customer she had ever had. Soon I found a dress that looked like I was wearing it, rather than a dress that was wearing me. I wanted a bold statement that was still feminine, and so Amy paired it with a pearl-cape from Akristin Bridal – it was perfect for me and my personality.
My shoes were from Senso – they were white with a metallic gold heel. I absolutely fell in love with them as soon as I saw them and knew they were perfect, and bought them even before I had my dress!
All of our rings were from Natalie Marie Jewellery. My engagement ring was white sapphire (Deklan’s birthstone) and diamonds (my birthstone).
JEWELLERY & ACCESSORIES
I wore long pearl earrings from One Day Bridal and wore a customized ‘wifey’ robe from One Day Bridal.
HAIR & MAKEUP
Chantelle from Boho Hair and Makeup did my hair, and we decided that wavy hair to the side was most ‘me’.
My makeup was completed by my friend Nikki, an amazing makeup artist, who brought her friend along to make sure she could get all 8 women’s makeup done in time.
Keepsake – Faithful Jumpsuit. The jumpsuits were grey, meaning the bright orange flowers would stand out. As I had 6 bridesmaids, I needed a colour that did not feel overwhelming to look at, and needed a shape that would suit 6 different body styles! The jumpsuit was very flattering and the girls loved them, which made a world of difference.
I also gave my bridesmaids earrings from Peach It! - https://shoppeach-it.myshopify.com/
Simple black heels with a block heel from ASOS.
Pastor James Murray from our church, C3 Home, was our celebrant. We knew he would make us feel comfortable, make the day light-hearted, whilst also keeping God at the center.
My husband and I each wrote our own vows.
My grandmother read Blessing of the Hands, and held our hands whilst doing so.
My cousin Adele read I Carry Your Heart by E.E. Cummings, a particularly special poem for us.
Our maid of honour and best man also sung a worship song for us to dedicate the ceremony to God, and another bridesmaid sung Can’t Stop Falling in Love by Elvis whilst we signed the registry.
Walking down the aisle – Deklan wrote a song titled “Yes, You” to ask me to be his girlfriend. I walked down the aisle to this. Fun fact: The song states “this rain falls hard, and it reminds me of you”, because it was raining when we went on our first date. The weather was predicted to be sunny that day, but it started raining lightly as I walked down the aisle – of course, we were the only ones who knew the significance of this, but it made me grin like a massive loser when the rain started.
Recessional – We walked back down to What I Like About You by The Romantics!
First Dance – We first danced to Such Great Heights by Iron & Wine.
Ceremony/Reception Venue - THEME & STYLE
We wanted the ceremony to be romantic, nature-focused, intimate, personal, and with God at the centre. This is why I walked down the aisle to Deklan’s handwritten song and why we worshipped with all of our friends and family. We didn’t want an arbour, as the background with the dam was so beautiful at Waldara, so instead stood with a floral arrangement around us and on the gorgeous rug from Lovestoned Styling
WEDDING PLANNER/ WEDDING STYLIST
Our florist ended up being our stylist – sorry Kat! But she was absolutely wonderful, met with me regularly to discuss my visions and eventually made it all come to fruition even better than I had imagined.
RECEPTION DÉCOR & DETAILS
We used long canvas on the tables with brass vases and candle holders as décor. Dried flowers were placed in the vases and holders, and a dried flower installation was behind our bridal table. We also used Lovestoned Bridal’s chandeliers hung from the ceiling. Again, we wanted the wedding to be romantic, nature-focused, intimate, and personal.
Our wedding invitations were made by our amazing friend Dan Elliott, with a photo from our engagement shoot as the background! We wanted our friends and family to come on a journey with us as we were “married in the moutains”, which Dan portrayed perfectly.
I made my own table seating sign, table number signs, guestbook sign, and name cards. I just recently learnt how to use Photoshop and was quite proud of myself in the end!
DID YOU STICK WITH THE TRADITION OF FAVORS /BONBONNIERE?
We made patches for our wedding favours!!!!! They said “til death” and illustrated a pinky promise. Our patches were made by https://www.etsy.com/au/shop/WildRoseShopNY.
We chose salted caramel cake by Baked Patisserie in Kirrawee.
I made SEVERAL playlists: pre-ceremony, canapes, dinner (romantic), and boogie time! This was one of my favourite parts, because my husband and I are very passionate about music.
FOOD & BEVERAGES
Red Pepper catered our wedding, and they were spectacular! We had a shared feast style, with various foods placed on the table that guests could share together.
YOUR MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT
One of my favourite moments was getting photos during cocktail hour with my husband and walking past all of our friends and family laying out on rugs in the sun with fun music playing. Deklan and I smiled each other, knowing it was all worth it.
The magical VLADAN GAJIC photographed our wedding! Vlad had photographed a few weddings that I had fallen in love with of people I followed on Instagram. As such, I never thought we would be able to afford him… but somehow, we could! My husband and I wanted a film-style photographer – we didn’t want an overly-posed, overly-processed photographer; rather, we wanted someone who could be more like a fly-on-the-wall of our special day. Rather than staging moments, we wanted a photographer could simply capture the moments and laughter we created ourselves. Vladan was perfect for this. We were lucky to snag him before he moved to Sweden, where he lives now!
HONEYMOON TIME BABY!!!
Hideout in Bali!!!!! This place was fabulous, we spent two nights here with no phone reception, and simply played games and spent time with nature.
IF YOU COULD GIVE OTHER BRIDES ONE PIECE OF ADVICE…
Spend time together the morning of the wedding doing something you both love doing… The day flies past, and it is so special to have those moments together.
